Applicants to all EFSD programmes must be paid-up EASD members.

Collaborative programmes with non-European countries are exempt from this regulation

EFSD Grant Programmes:

EFSD/Novo Nordisk A/S Programme for Diabetes Research in Europe

  • Grants for basic and clinical research on diabetes
  • Accepts applications November – 1 February

EFSD/Boehringer Ingelheim European Research Programme on "Multi-System Challenges in Diabetes"

  • Grants for basic and clinical research on the inter-organ crosstalk and related pathophysiology in diabetes and its complications
  • Accepts applications January – 1 April

EFSD/Novo Nordisk Foundation Precision Diabetes Medicine Award Programme

  • Grants for basic and clinical research based on scientific quality, innovation potential and a clear translational focus; bringing basic knowledge to use at the patient level in terms of e.g. disease prognosis, treatment prediction or patient stratification
  • Accepts applications February – 17 May

EFSD/Lilly European Diabetes Research Programme

  • Grants for basic and clinical research on diabetes
  • Accepts applications July – 1 September

EFSD and Lilly EXPLORING AND APPLYING NEW STRATEGIES IN DIABETES (EXPAND) Programme

  • Grants for research projects implemented in Europe on improvement of quality of care in low-and middle income countries
  • Accepts applications July – 2 November

EFSD European Research Programme on "New Targets for Diabetes or Obesity-related Metabolic Diseases" supported by an educational research grant from MSD

  • Grants for research projects on new targets for type 2 diabetes
  • Accepts applications September – 1 December

EFSD/Sanofi “Outlook to the next 100 years of insulin: Innovative insulin delivery and monitoring systems”

  • Grants for basic and clinical mechanistic studies understanding and improving insulin delivery and action
  • Accepts applications November – 1 March

EFSD/Sanofi European Diabetes Research Programme in diabetes associated with cardiovascular disease

  • Grants for basic and clinical studies, translational studies especially welcome
  • Intended to stimulate research aimed at improving understanding of cardiovascular disease associated with diabetes
  • Accepts applications November – 15 March

EFSD Albert Renold Travel Fellowship Programme

  • Travel research fellowships for up to 3 months for PhD students and Postdocs worldwide
  • The call for applications will run once a year

EFSD/Lilly Young Investigator Research Award Programme

  • Young investigator research awards for basic and clinical research projects on diabetes
  • Accepts applications November – 15 February

EASD Rising Star Symposium and EFSD Rising Star Fellowship Programme supported by Novo Nordisk

  • Research Fellowships for basic and clinical research projects on diabetes and the opportunity to present during a multidisciplinary research symposium at the EASD Annual Meeting
  • Accepts applications November – 15 February

EFSD/Novo Nordisk Foundation Future Leaders Award Programme

  • Career development awards of 5 years for basic and clinical diabetes research
  • Accepts applications December – 1 March

EFSD/JDS Reciprocal Travel Research Fellowship Programme

  • Travel research fellowships to or from Japan (up to 12 months)
  • Accepts applications April – 1 July
  • Postponed until further notice due to the COVID-19 pandemic and travel restrictions

Young investigators are also welcome to apply for EFSD grant programmes!
