EASD Albert Renold Travel Fellowship Programme

Programme Objective

The EASD Albert Renold Travel Fellowships enable scientists and clinicians to travel and stay at other institutions in order to learn specific techniques or clinical skills required for the advancement of their diabetes research project and not available at their home institution. The home and/or the host institution must be based in Europe or a Europe-associated country (for detailed country list, please see here), both must be non-profit and each must be in a different country. Applicants must be employed at their home institution during their award.

The duration of the stay may be up to 3 months. The requested amount for each Fellowship could be for up to Euro 10,000.

Please note: The budgeted amount must not exceed Euro 10,000.

Fellowship Applications

The following regulations will apply:

  • Applications can be submitted by early career scientists: scientists and clinicians at an early stage of their career, up to 7 years since completion of their most recent degree (PhD, MSc, or MD degrees). Eligibility can be extended for reasons such as maternity, paternity, illness, national service, clinical training, natural disasters, or asylum, if clearly described (further documentation may be requested at the discretion of EASD/EFSD).
  • The time since the last degree may not exceed seven years before 1 January in the year the Fellowship is awarded. Fellows may not hold a permanent appointment.
  • EASD Albert Renold Travel Fellowships cannot be used to finance part of a longer stay.
  • Successful applicants must travel within 9 months of receipt of the Award. If this is not possible, special permission from the EFSD Office must be sought or the fellowship will be automatically withdrawn.
  • The funds must be transferred into a European institution.
  • Awardees will be expected to provide a written report and confirmation of stay from the host institution on return to the home institution.
  • Awardees will not be able to receive a second EASD Albert Renold Travel Fellowship within the next two years following their award.
  • Applicants must be paid up members of EASD.
Required documents include: 
  1. Statement of purpose - applicant's statement of how the visit will benefit the applications and the applicant's department (maximum 1 page).
  2. Signatures and Declaration - Fellowships (Albert Renold Travel Fellowship Programme)

  4. Proof of Institutions non-profit status (bylaws and governing document certifying non-profit status of your institution).
  5. Biographical sketch of the applicant (maximum 3 pages).
  6. Letter of Recommendation - Home Institution
    Applicants are required to submit a signed letter of recommendation by the Head of the Department at current place of work (home institution).
  7. Letter of host institution
    Applicants are required to submit a signed letter of invitation from the host institution confirming the invitation to visit and describing the objectives of the stay.
    IMPORTANT: The Home and Host letters must be dates, printed and signed on institutional letterhead.

All applications must be prepared on the official application form in the EFSD programme portal and completed in strict accordance with the detailed instructions to be found there. Applications which do not comply with the given instructions will not be considered for review.

The deadline for application has now passed.

Applications will be reviewed by a committee of experts and awards will be made within 6 weeks after the application deadline.
